MAC Workers Compensation Safety and Loss Control

The Fund employs a loss prevention coordinator who works with the various county departments to control losses and create safe work environments through on-site surveys and accident analysis, needs assessment, program development, and training seminars.

Several years ago, the Fund Board of Directors instituted two programs as incentives for making Missouri counties more conscious and aware of precautionary measures that can control costs and trim premiums.

Certified Safety Program...

To help counties control losses and reduce the potential for accidents or injuries, the Missouri Association of Counties' Self-Insured Workers' Compensation Fund established the MAC Certified Safety Program. The program was implemented to recognize and award counties who control their losses.

For the first year, counties who are willing to maintain an effective loss prevention or safety program receive a 2 percent dividend on the next year's premium. Continuing a successful program for a second and third year means an additional 2 percent for each year -- up to a total of 6 percent.

To qualify for the Certified Safety Program, counties must undertake the following:

  • Be a current member of the MAC Workers' Comp Fund with one full year of membership.
  • Be willing to fully commit to changes in regard to safety.
  • Be willing to implement and follow requirements of a safety program.
  • Maintain a frequency rate (number of claims) that is 30 percent better than the pool at large.
  • Maintain a severity rate (cost of claims) that is 50 percent less than the county's total yearly premium.

Once a county completes the requirements for the Certified Safety Program, a certificate is issued which can be displayed in public areas. Displaying the certificate helps to exhibit a positive county commitment to the safety of its employees, as well as the community.

No Claims Award...

Any county that has successfully had three consecutive years of no claims is eligible for the No Claims Award. Successful counties receive a 10 percent dividend on their next year's premium.
